Massif started as a one-person operation in a small workshop in Romania. It became one of the best-loved furniture brands. And when it fell, something bigger picked up the baton — for a reason that goes far beyond furniture.
Massif began in Timișoara, Romania — a one-person workshop making solid wood furniture to order, because the founder couldn’t find anything good enough for his own home. The first year served a handful of customers. Word spread quietly.
An uncompromising approach to quality paid off. More and more customers in Romania and across the EU began choosing Massif. The reviews were outstanding — five stars, consistently, year after year. The team grew. Artisan craft met robotic precision. Waiting lists grew longer.
Not for lack of demand — quite the opposite. Production simply couldn’t keep up with the orders coming in. The team couldn’t grow fast enough, and in August 2025 Massif was put on hold. The beds were still exceptional. The brand’s reputation was intact. But the operation needed more hands, more space and more capital than was available at the time.
Kenosis Design acquired the Massif brand, the website and the entire product catalogue. Not as a corporate takeover — but because it meant jobs for a community that needed them. Every Massif bed you order today is built in the Kenosis workshop in Timișoara, by craftspeople who are part of something bigger than furniture.
At Kenosis, we believe in a world where people truly feel at home. That belief shapes everything we do — from the communities we work with to the products we create.
We work alongside members of the Roma communities in Timișoara, because we believe everyone deserves a chance. Kenosis Design is wholly owned by our non-profit organisation, Seeds of Kenosis.
The workshop began when we realised that our education programmes for more than 80 children in the community weren’t enough on their own — not if those children went home to parents without stable jobs. So we built a workshop. Some of those parents are now making your bed.
When the opportunity to acquire Massif came up, we took it — not primarily for the reputation or the portfolio, although both are exceptional. We did it because it meant more jobs for the people we care about.
“We let the wood speak. Every grain, every curve, every variation in tone is a decision — not an accident.”
Massif beds are built in our workshop by people from disadvantaged backgrounds — for many, their first stable job. For us, craftsmanship isn’t just about wood: it’s about dignity, patience and the chance to build something that lasts.
So when you order your bed, you don’t just get well-made furniture. You directly support the work of people who have finally been given a chance.
Every piece of wood has its own character — a grain pattern, a tone, a texture no other piece shares. We work with that character, not against it. The result is furniture that truly can’t be repeated.
Every joint uses mortise-and-tenon construction — wood locking into wood. A threaded rod and nut hidden inside the assembly draw everything together precisely, completely invisible from outside. No exposed brackets, no visible hardware. The joint gets stronger over time, not weaker.
We treat wood the way we treat the people on our team — bringing out their natural character and individual potential. A workshop that cares about its people makes better things. We believe that wholeheartedly.
Mortise-and-tenon construction isn’t just a nice phrase. We had ten people jump on one bed and parked a car on another — and not a single joint gave way. See for yourself:
